After 40 years as a cabinetmaker and custom furniture maker in Port Townsend, I strive to design pieces that will connect the right form with the right wood and create works of enduring beauty and usefulness.

I love simple clean lines and believe that furniture and cabinetry design (proportion and composition) should serve the natural beauty of wood, allowing the qualities of the chosen material (color, subtle textures, inherent boldness) to take the foreground.

I tend toward a modernist aesthetic, much like that of the Scandinavian modernists who are masters of exceptional, spare designs that provide both a minimalist framework and an elegant effect. At the same time, I remain interested in all facets of classical architecture and their influence on the history of furniture.

I am a native of Chicago, a former Olympic speed skater, and an avid golfer and skier. Since moving to Washington’s Olympic Peninsula over four decades ago, I have rooted myself in Port Townsend’s unique community of artists, craftsmen, and wooden boatbuilders. I’ve created custom cabinetry and furniture for individual clients and organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest.
